The Murder of Nurse Edith Cavell
Edith Cavell was a British nurse working in Belgium. She was known for her compassion as she would treat any wounded soldier brought before her, regardless of his nationality. She is credited with assisting 200 Allied soldiers in escaping from German-occupied Belgium. Because of her deed she was arrested by German authorities and found guilty of "assisting men to the enemy." She was executed by firing squad on October 12th, 1915. This spurred public outrage in Britain and provided propagandists with a new way to portray the Germans as the savage other.
